MM Sonic Worlds Unite Promo

Worlds Unite is an upcoming crossover between the Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog Comic Series published by Archie Comics. It is the second crossover with the Sonic the Hedgehog Comics after Worlds Collide which was released in 2013. World Unite is scheduled to be released by May 2015.[1]

Development[]

Worlds Unite eventual began development when Worlds Collide was in the comic book stores as Ian Flynn, the writer of Mega Man, decided to make the sequel but with more ideas to create such ever expanding crossover. Although he talked with Capcom (the owners of the Mega Man IP) and Sega about the crossover, they agreed with him and eventually though of adding more franchises into the crossover as well (much of which was later revealed in February of 2015).[2]

Before the New York Comic Con in 2014, Polygon announced the crossover on October 7, 2014. Like the previous crossover, Ian Flynn will write the story and Patrick "Spaz" Spazinate will do the artwork as well. On the Polygon article on Worlds Unite, Then-Archie Comics Executive Editor, Paul Kaminski, told Polygon in a statement:

"When the worlds of Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man collided in the pages of Archie Action comics, readers, fans and retailers made it the biggest crossover event in Archie Action history. That historic crossover storyline changed the comic book worlds of Sega and Capcom's iconic video game characters forever, but now an even bigger event is on the horizon. You saw what happened when worlds collided, now see what happens when Words Unite! And this time, no universe will be safe..."

On December 12, 2014, IGN later revealed that Mega Man X and Sonic Boom (a new spin-off of the Sonic Franchise), will be involved in the Worlds Unite crossover.[3]

With the reveal of the Archie Action Comic Book releases for April 2015, Mega Man Issue #47 added a countdown towards the the number issues left until beginning of the Worlds Unite crossover(which also revealed that Worlds Unite will be released by June 2015). Issue #47 showed that there was three issues left until the crossover. Other series have the same countdowns, including Sonic Boom #6, Sonic the Hedgehog #271, and Sonic Universe #74.

In February 23, 2015, IGN revealed that more characters from Sega and Capcom (which owns the Mega Man Franchise) will also be on the crossover. The Reveal started the next day on February 24 with Alex Kidd and Billy Hatcher (both from Sega) along with Capcom's Nina (from the Breath of Fire series) and Viewtiful Joe was revealed to be in the Crossover.[4] The next day, NiGHTS, and Tyris Flare (from Golden Axe) from Sega along with Red Arremer (from Ghosts 'n Goblins), and Amaterasu (from Okami) from Capcom were revealed.

List of Worlds Unite Issues[]

Like it's previous crossover, Worlds Collide, the entire crossover will consist of 12 issues, each of the four issues will contain a story arc within the crossover. Unlike Worlds Collide, it will span to four different comic series instead of three. The Preludes will also appear in the 2015 Free Comic Book Day Issue of Mega Man and Sonic along with Sonic Super Special Magazine #15. In additon to the FCBD Issue and the Sonic Super Special Magazine, it will also include a Spin-Off within the crossover named Worlds Unite Battles.
